Finally the day came that the box would be right next door in Jones County. I thought a less populated county might give me better chances, so I researched a few places and had a few in mind that I thought the box might be. That day, I strategically placed myself near the middle of the county, read to dash off in any direction. The clue came and I knew exactly where to go! As I pulled in to that park, the message came across that it had already been found. Shucks! I appreciated the t-shirt, but immediately started anticipating the next close county.
Soon enough, my neighbor to the south, Johnson County was announced. What better place to find an #ISU99 box than in the town of that other state school! :) I got the notice of times and was ready to start early. Again, I tried to research places that it could be and while I didn't fully believe they'd hide it at either, I had narrowed it to 2 options: Kinnick Stadium and the Old Capitol Museum. I even anticipated what clues might be given for each location!
Sunday morning came, I woke early and made my way to Iowa City. I first drove around Kinnick, but was surprised to see some activity in the parking lot and determined that it might not be the best place. I then went to the Old Capitol Museum and the area was dead. I thought it was the perfect spot, so I found a place to park and waited. No more than 5 minutes later, the clue came in: "A helpful smile in every aisle" - well geez, Hy-Vee was an easy guess, but WHAT HY-VEE??? :) I was VERY fortunate to find that the closest Hy-Vee to my location was 7 minutes away. I made the quick drive there and saw the box waiting as I pulled into the parking lot! Could it really be?? Am I first??? CYCLONE STATE!!!!! Victory was officially mine!!!
Included in my box was a signed football, which was definitely a bonus!! Thank you Coach Campbell and Iowa State University! I had a BLAST with this adventure. I can't thank Iowa State Extension and Outreach enough for all they do. I look forward to watching others race for the box over the next couple months and definitely can't wait for Cyclone Football!! Go State!! :)
